2. Share a surprising source of inspiration that fueled this project.

Our client’s love for pink, combined with her radiant, feminine personality, was the key inspiration behind the kitchen design for the Oakville Project. Her whimsical and playful spirit led us to infuse the space with bright, airy elements and a touch of femininity. We also wanted to seamlessly connect the indoors with the beauty of the outdoors, incorporating garden/floral elements to give the space a refreshing vibe. The result is a stylish, personality-filled kitchen where her love for pink truly shines. 

3. What’s the standout colour/feature that steals the spotlight in your design?

The organic inspired wallpaper in the coffee nook that blends pink hues with natural green undertones. The design for the Oakville Project evokes a serene, botanical feel, with subtle, flowing patterns that mimic the beauty of nature. 

4. If your design had a theme song, what genre would it be?

I’d say the theme song would lean towards something upbeat and vibrant, maybe in the jazz or indie-pop genre. Think bright, energetic, and feel-good tunes. 

5. What single word captures the emotion your project aims to evoke?

Playfulness 

The bright and airy colours used in the Oakville Project’s evokes a sense of fun, lightheartedness, and creativity. It’s playful, inviting, and brings out an energetic, joyful mood—perfect for sparking positivity and lightening the atmosphere. 

6. Imagine your design as an iconic movie scene—what’s the setting?

I’d imagine it’s a whimsical scene set in a vibrant, retro-inspired café or boutique. The space is bathed in soft pink tones, sparkling gold accents, and lots of natural light streaming in. It’s a place where time slows down, and you can just imagine characters having heartfelt conversations or dancing carefree. It’s glamorous, but with a laid-back, inviting energy. Maybe The Great Gatsby modern version with their lavish garden party. A space that is bright and carefree yet filled with beautiful flowers with jazz music playing in the background. 

7. What’s the unexpected twist that sets this apart from the rest?

The incredible appliances, especially the La Cornue range. It’s a truly luxury item and while everything in the Oakville Project kitchen feels highly designed, this piece truly is the centerpiece that elevated this space to new heights. 

8. How do you approach designing kitchens? Any special ingredients that make yours unique?

We tend to ask a plethora of questions. Every household has unique needs and ensuring they are all known in advance makes planning a kitchen successful. We find a space for everything and work from there. Interior design must be beautiful, but function is essential. 

9. When it comes to choosing appliances for your kitchen designs, what’s your go-to strategy/#1 rule?

Budget is always the first step. We always want to suggest the best appliances our clients can afford. As the most used item in a home, it is imperative that we consider quality first. Then we move to styling. A white appliance can be seamless, and stainless steel has been so overused the last twenty years. There are so many options to choose from, why not select based on design? Even La Cornue has multiple colours available. It’s like shopping in a candy store. It can be subtle or a centrepiece. Designing kitchens shouldn’t be boring. It should be a dream space no matter what the budget.
